I find crazy stuff all the time around here. Last week it was a can full of gas and no cap in an exterior heated room with an overhead heater unit and boxes of styrofaom cups and supplies piled up next to the heater. Seems that some people think gas…

Profile Information

Residence.
North Pole Alaska
Department:
Ft. Wainwright Fire & Emergency Services and North Star Volunteer Fire Department
Years of public service:
Proudly Serving Since 1985
Agency structure:
Military fire department
Top issues in your department:
I think a lot of issues in our department are universal like most others.

Tradition is a big one! Being true to your Brothers even if they may be different or not exactly think like you do....that really ruffles the feathers. Some people have no concept with what "Walk the Walk" Talk the Talk" really means and you cannot have one without the other.
Professional Qualifications:
IFSAC Fire Officer I, II, Insp. I, II, Instr I, D/O & MWS, Aerial, ARFF, Pumper Hazmat IC & Technician, Telecommunicator I & II; Pennsylvania FF I, II & Alaska FF I, II, Instr. I; Trench & Confined space -Ice and High and low angle rescue; NIMS, CISM , Safety Officer, PIO, State of Alaska EMT II
Topics you provide training for:
FF I, FF II, Fire Inspection procedures, driving apparatus, water supply, firefighting basics, I do my best to share with those that are willing to learn our trade with my knowledge I have learned over the years from others and being on the job.
Areas of expertise:
"Ancora Imparo" means - Still I am learning" Michelangelo
"Omnis Cedo Domus - Everyone Goes Home I am a Firefighter"
"Noli nothis permittere te terere - Keep The Faith"

I am no expert in any one area. I do have lots of knowledge in many areas that I love to share so I can make room to learn more from all the people on here. It is already happening and still wanting to learn more.....guess I have a huge appetite for the Brotherhood and I can't get enough.

I am in the early stages of becoming a bagpiper and to get more involved in learning and developing a State wide protocol for an Honor Guard so that we can all be uniform and do it the same way everywhere. I feel this is important aspect because if you go to another area, most people would be familiar with the way it works and it would go much more smoothly.

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and it does, use the duct tape.

Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks in advance everyone

A BUCK FIFTY FOR YOUR FIREFIGHTERS, A GREAT GIFT IDEA!

A good low cost safety reminder tool from IAFC! I took this article from Firefighter Close Calls

This is not some huge request (especially during these tough budget times), as this is for your FD to consider $1.50 (each) for the purchase of a pocket "Firefighter Survival" 2010 planner for all of your members.

With the holidays right around the corner, there is a cool opportunity for your organization to provide something to your members, and support the work of the Safety, Health and Survival… Continue

10th Anniversary of Worcester 6: Remember Our Fallen this day and everyday!

Tragically on this day 10 years ago, 3 December 1999, we lost 6 brave men to a higher calling. Their dedication and sacrifice forever changed the American Fire Service for the better. It is with heavy hearts that they are no longer with us as we celebrate their passion and love for our job and we remember the lives of our Brother Firefighters Paul A Brotherton, Timothy P. Jackson, Jeremiah M. Lucey, James F. “Jay” Lyons III, Joseph T. McGuirk and Lt. Thomas E. Spencer on Box 5-1438 on 3 December… Continue

Looking Back!

As usual I I found cool and interesting historical stuff from Chief Billy on Firefighter Close Calls.com. Probably got this stuff from our very own fire service history wizard Chief Glenn Corbett...LOL Anyway this was recently posted on the site about two historic fires tragically claiming the lives of our brothers in years past.

Patriotism

Well it seems a lot has been happening in OUR country lately with American Flag displays in some apartment complex in Albany Oregon or a decal in a Pa FD not being allowed! In all my years in the Fire Service not much has been held more sacred than Patriotism and displaying the American flag and all that it stands for! We have all given our own personal sacrifices in one way or another and an insurmountable number have given their lives for OUR FLAG and COUNTRY to allow her to forever wave! What… Continue

Remember in all we do this day 9/11

This is a dark day for Americans and especially our profession. We must remain ever vigilant and never wavering in spirit and in Brotherhood. For what makes us weak will forever make us stronger. Fear not this day for God has us in His hands and the angels are among us. For today is a day of remembrance and also a day of reckoning that we know that those that gave their all are in Heaven and one day we will meet again.

So on this day and everyday always remember to honor not only our brothers a… Continue
