Bio:
Paul Combs is a classically trained artist, award winning illustrator, and firefighter/EMT. That’s right, this unlikely combination has made Paul one of the most compelling and distinctive cartoonist/illustrators in America today. Paul burst onto the scene of emerging illustrators with a refreshing new style that married classical realism, manic energy and a zany imagination for caricature. His lavishly detailed illustrations are published worldwide in newspapers, magazines (print and online), and books. He also contributes editorial cartoons to Fire Engineering, Firehouse.com, JEMS, and Public Safety Communications on a monthly basis.
In conjunction with his career as an illustrator, Lieutenant Combs is a thirteen-year veteran firefighter for the city of Bryan (Ohio) Fire Department where he is a Firefighter II, NREMT-B, HazMat Technician and Instructor for the City of Bryan Fire Training Academy.

Post 9/11 Illnesses

My first fireengineering.com illustration has been posted as the featured commentary. This is the first of many, many illustration to come. Suicide Awareness

Due to numerous comments, I'd like to take a moment and highlight one of my recent Fire Engineering mag illustrations.

The illustration in question tackles the topic of firefighter suicide and the fact that we can't always see the underlying problems that lead to this shattering conclusion. This topic had been eating away at me for over a year before settling on a visual commentary. In 2008, my Department went through such an ordeal when one of our officers, and a personal mentor, committed sui… Continue

Really enjoy your cartoons. Often post them over the urinal for all the guys to read.(can't help to read them while stand there) Most are dead on the money. Please keep them coming.

Love the cartoons brother!! It is my opinion that anyone who says that your cartoons do not portray an active statement about the things that plague the fire service and also serve as a learning tool is a fool.
